Carlong First Steps in Science – Year 5 is the revised edition of First Steps in Science – Year 5 Pupil’s Book and First Steps in Science – Year 5 Activity Book. The textbook provides full coverage of the new National Standards Curriculum for science and the concepts within are taught using a practical, investigative method. The book also focuses on integrated learning and seeks to have the learner gain a deeper appreciation of science, especially their environment. The material is presented in an easy-to-understand manner but is strongly focused on the development of the students’ critical thinking skills.

Author Name and Description

Vilma McClenan is a committed science educator an experienced author who, in 2000, was awarded the Silver Musgrave Medal from the Institute of Jamaica for Science and Technology Education.

Doreth McFarlane is an outstanding and experienced former primary level teacher in Jamaica. She worked for years as a MOEYI resource teacher and was the recipient of the Bronze Musgrave Medal from the Institute of Jamaica for Science and Technology Education.

Marceline Collins-Figueroa is an experienced educator and senior lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Paulette Chedda is a science specialist who taught at the primary level for many years. She has served the MOEYI as a resource teacher and is a principal at the primary level.
